Following the Presbyterian pattern, the Kirk Session is the governing body of the congregation, and is composed of Elders who have been directly elected by the congregation.
These elders are known as Ruling Elders and working with the Minister of the congregation, who is the Teaching Elder, are officially responsible for the spiritual oversight of the congregation.
The Kirk Session meets about eight times a year and discuss issues dealing with the life and witness of the congregation.
Elders are ordained for life. Elders are also assigned a district that is a number of families in the congregation for pastoral oversight.
An elder from the congregation is also chosen every year to represent the congregation at meetings of Presbytery, and at the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in

Ian Abraham, Minister & Teaching Elder Ian's home church is in Portadown and after completing his studies in Union Theological College he served as an Assistant Minister in Mourne (Kilkeel) before answering a call to Cavanaleck and Aughentaine where he served until his call and installation in Lissara in December 2004.He is of the firm conviction that his service in Lissara places him in the centre of God's will for his life and looks forward to seeing God moving powerfully in both the congregation and the community. Norman Gibson, Convenor - Publications Committee Norman Gibson is the Web-master for Lissara and can be contacted by email (by clicking on his name) or by phone on 078 1138 2354. Norman accepted Jesus as his saviour when he was a young boy and joined Lissara in 1994, was elected to committee in 1997 and to session in 2003. Approaching the end of a long career in public service, Norman would also see a God-filled future for Lissara and can also clearly see God's hand at work in his life. In addition to maintaining the web-site, Norman has resonsibility for the church magazine and a Church District from Killyleagh Street towards Derryboye and Raffery. |
