Internet Guidelines for Page Editors
www.lissara.com

Dated: - 21 June 2006

  1. Lissara Presbyterian Church formally adopts the Presbyterian Church in Ireland internet guidelines as the basis for their own web-site. The following guidance is subordinate to the PCI guidelines and is intended to expand on the local implementation of the corporate policy.
  2. The following pages provide a brief outline of the development of and management of the web-site for Lissara Presbyterian Church (www.lissara.com). Acknowledging the overriding right and responsibility vested in the Kirk Session of Lissara Presbyterian Church (“Kirk Session”) to control and manage the content of these pages, this document details the pages that will come under the direct control of the Kirk Session and those that will be supervised by the Site Administrator and/or Minister.
    • The Kirk Session retains unilateral authority to suspend or cease the operation of the web-site.
    • The Kirk Session will appoint a Site Administrator to oversee its web-site and delegates its authority to the Site Administrator to appoint page editors.
      • Until further notice, the Kirk Session of Lissara Presbyterian Church designates Norman Gibson as its Site Administrator. This appointment will be subject to continual review and will be the subject of a formal review every three years coinciding with the election of a new committee and the appointment of sub-committee conveners.
    • The Site Administrator has delegated responsibility from the Kirk Session to amend all pages for style and/or accuracy.
    • Together, the Site Administrator and Minister have unilateral authority to remove any material which they consider contrary to Church doctrine or congregational ethos.
    • Together, the Site Administrator and Minister have unilateral authority to remove an organisation’s editorial rights pending investigation by Kirk Session.
  3. In embarking on this project it is legitimate to ask if it has any value, who is likely to visit the site and under what circumstances the information be may useful. In business circles this may be termed, ‘Who is our user?’ and this question helps in preparing material that is relevant and ‘of value’.
  4. Initially this site has been focused as an on-line ministry and it allows us to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the street corner of the internet in every bit as powerful a way as our predecessors did on the street corners of our towns and villages.
  5. There would appear to be two distinct groups of users: -
    • ‘Seekers’: If we properly detail our keywords we can attract ‘hits’ from people using search engines to find web sites talking about ‘Christ’, ‘faith’, ‘church’, ‘County Down’ ‘Presbyterian’, ‘sin’, ‘salvation’ and many other relevant words.
    • Site ‘traffic’ is further developed by asking PCI, other churches, relevant organisations and public bodies to provide links from their sites.
    • Our congregation, friends and sister churches in the Presbytery and PCI. They would be seen as using it for information about us, our activities, local news and (in many ways) further developing the existing ethos of the ‘Bush Telegraph’
  6. In general our pages will be divided as follows (always bearing in mind the overriding duties and responsibilities of the Kirk Session):-
    • Pages that relate to beliefs, doctrine, worship, spiritual direction or church ethos: - will be prepared by the Minister and supervised by the Site Administrator (these will generally be relatively static pages requiring limited alteration as they relate to founding principles), or
    • Pages that relate to activities or organisations: - will be prepared by a nominated representative under the supervision of the Site Administrator, or
    • Pages used for administration or edited by the Site Administrator: - will be supervised by the Minister.
  7. If an organisation cannot identify an editor the Site Administrator (whilst ensuring maximum participation) will prepare and maintain the page. This is perceived as a poor second option as it reduces the opportunity to keep the site current and include forthcoming activities.
  8. The following lists the initial pages and editors, but is not exhaustive and will be subject to revision and augmentation.
