It is with regret and sadness that we record the death of our brother, friend and Senior Elder, Tom Hewitt.
Tom died on Tuesday, 30 January and we celebrated a service of thanksgiving for his life in our church on Friday 2 February.
During the service Rev. Abraham paid the following tribute to Tom.

Thomas James Taylor Hewitt (Tom)
1918 - 2007
Members of Lissara remember Tom Hewitt as a faithful and active member of the congregation. Tom served this congregation in many capacities – and was a former Sunday School Superintendent.
Tom Hewitt was ordained to the eldership, on Sunday 21 April 1968. His gifts and abilities were quickly utilised by Session, and at a meeting of the Kirk Session on the 3 March 1969 he was appointed Session Clerk.
The Session Minute Book detailing the events of that evening records:-
"In accepting this honour Mr Hewitt said it was naturally an emotional moment for him – with the thought in mind that his father had been elected to fill the same position in the same minister’s room, some 36 years earlier."
The minute continues: -
"Mr Hewitt asked for the advice & consideration of all members present & assured the minister & session that he would do all in his power to work for a spirit of goodwill & Christian charity amongst the congregation"
Today we give God thanks for the leadership Tom Hewitt provided in this congregation and for the tremendous faithfulness he displayed in carrying out his duties in Lissara
The Rev Stanley Logue, was minister of the congregation when Tom was elected Clerk, and Tom was a tremendous help & encouragement to him – as he was to the ministers who succeeded him the Rev Uel Matthews, and the Rev Uel Armstrong.
Tom served as Clerk of Session until he retired from the position on the 29 May 1997 after 29 years of faithful and dedicated service. Tom, however, remained an elder, and was, until recently, still attending meetings of Session and making a valuable contribution to our deliberations
