What can you expect when visiting Lissara Presbyterian Church for the first time?

Front of Lissara Presbyterian ChurchEntering an unfamiliar church for the first time can be a daunting prospect. This page provides some pictures of our church, explains the format of our services and details the facilities available.

Our main Sunday services are morning worship at 11.30 a.m. and evening worship at 7.00 p.m. (September - June) During July and August we meet at 10.30 a.m.

We hold a family service on the second Sunday of each month. As this service is intended for everyone, children's church is incorporated into this service.

The sacrament of the Lord's Supper is administered on the first Sunday in January (7.00 p.m.), Good Friday (8.00 p.m.), the first Sunday in May and November (11.30 a.m.)

Our services follow the standard Presbyterian format including prayers, Scripture readings and a sermon. We regularly say the Lord's Prayer and this is the only time there is any spontaneous participation from the congregation. All other participation is announced from the pulpit or arranged in advance (e.g. scripture reading). No one is asked to participate until they are comfortable and ready to do so.

Rear of Lissara Presbyterian ChurchAt morning worship there is a crèche for younger children. This is led by a female member of the congregation (normally a mum) ably assisted by some of the younger members of the congregation.

There is also a children’s church for those aged 4 to 8. Those wishing to attend leave the main service after the children’s talk.

We strive to make our worship real, meaningful and relevant, always remembering we are assembling in the presence of God and claiming His promise that where His people meet together in His name, He is there with them (Matthew 18:20).

We believe regular attendance at church is to be commended. Attendance at worship is an amazing and special gift from God, which gives us the wonderful privilege of being able to meet together with other Christians to praise and worship God and to learn more about Him.

Looking briefly at some practical matters: -

  • The front door of the church is near kerb level with only one small step. A portable ramp is available if needed. (Please speak to one of the church members on door-duty).
  • Toilets are available within the main church complex; Access to them is gained through the church hall entrance.
  • We are presently reviewing our facilities for worshipers who have difficulties walking, and for those who use wheelchairs.
  • Our amplification equipment is also under review. We are looking at installing a complete IT system which will include an induction loop system.
