Pray (ACts)

Read (Genesis 2v25)

Message (Scott Woodburn)

I’m convinced that when we are raised again to life we will be as naked as the day we were born. The thought of that might sound incredibly unappealing as you and I are probably not those who would enjoy walking through Ballynahinch with every inch of ourselves on show. Nevertheless, we will spend eternity in Heaven and will be be both naked and unashamed.

The reason for this can be found back in Genesis 2v25. After the institution of marriage we are told that both Adam and Eve were naked and not ashamed. The Fall had not yet occurred, sin had not yet entered the world and death was not yet the punishment for sin. Everything would soon change but in those glorious early days Adam and Eve were without sin and without shame.

It has long been said that when Jesus returns everything will return to as it was before the Fall - Eden will be restored and the earth will no longer be corrupted by sin. With that being the case I believe that we will no longer need a covering for our shame. When Adam and Eve realised their sin, they made clothing for themselves and hid away from the Lord (Genesis 3v7-8). They knew what they had done and were filled with shame.

In the future that shame will no longer fill the hearts of God’s people. We will no longer be self-conscious and we will no longer be so judgemental when we look at others. I understand completely that we currently can’t imagine nakedness as the norm but it is true. We will once again stand before the Lord both naked and unashamed.
