All being well we will begin working though the Westminster Larger Catechism (WLC) in our Lord's day evening services comes September (2023). As with the Westminster Shorter Catechism (WSC) we will not work through the text of the Catechism instead we will look to the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament for it is the only infallible rule of faith and practice, and the supreme standard of the Church and what we believe must be founded upon and agreeable to it.
While I only posted a couple of books on the WSC there are many more resources available in thinking through these eternal truths of Scripture that the Catechism summaries. Therefore I only have a couple of books to recommend to you if you would like a companion to read while we work though the WLC which will give you more of a technical commentary than I will.
You may ask why go through the WLC when we have not long finished working though the WSC? Well the reason is simple, the WSC leans on the WLC and was intended only as a summary of Christian doctrine, a summary that was according to the preface of the Catechism to educate children and others "of weaker capacity” whereas the WLC is a teaching tool for churches and families, covering matters of faith and life, it covers many of the doctrines contained in the WSC in a much richer and fuller way. What we may miss is that both the WSC and the WLC follow a traditional pattern of expounding the statements of faith we confess in the Apostles’ Creed which I have given some detail on in our news section (Click here).
If you click on the image below and you will be able to see the cover of the book and then check any good Christian Bookstore and they should have it in stock, or get it next day from Amazon.
