4th May 2024
Pray (ACts) Read (Hebrews 13v8) Message (Scott Woodburn) What happens to Edengrove now that the cake has been eaten and the balloons deflated? I promise we won't immediately start planning our 275th birthday which, by the grace of God, will take place on the 2nd May 2049. No. We'll put away the decorations, tidy up the party poppers and quickly return to proclaiming Christ and Him crucified. The Lord Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever and although I cannot accurately predict Edengrove's future, I am certain about the future of every single Christian. Peter once spoke about how ours is a living hope with an unfading heavenly inheritance (1 Peter 1v3-4), Paul couldn't have been clearer when he declared that to be with Jesus in heaven is better by far (Philippians 1v23) and elsewhere he also was sure that Christ is coming back and Christians will be raised imperishable (1 Corinthians 15v52). Jesus is the same forever and our faith in Him is not misplaced. I have no idea what anything will be like in twenty-fire years but I know Christ will not change. I find great comfort in the Lord's immutability. If He blesses me with another forty-four years I will certainly know the impact of time upon my life but my Saviour is timeless. He has been faithful in the past, He is with us today and He will certainly be faithful in the future. Therefore, our vision for Edengrove's tomorrow is simple - we must continue to make much of Christ. Christ Jesus is greater than we can possibly imagine. Knowing Him as Saviour and Lord surpasses everything else in this world (Philippians 3v8). He is the same yesterday, today and forever and so at the end of this anniversary week we still sing "Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!" (Psalm 115v1). Pray (acTS) Sing WSC Q30 How doth the Spirit apply to us the redemption purchased by Christ? The Spirit applieth to us the redemption purchased by Christ, by working faith in us, and thereby uniting us to Christ in our effectual calling.
